1. Witcher

The series is based on a Polish novel by Andrzej Sapkowski which first became extremely popular as a video game. The series premiered in late December 2019 on Netflix and almost immediately got renewed for a second season. Set on a fictional, medieval-inspired landmass known as “the Continent”, The Witcher explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia and princess Ciri, who are linked by destiny to each other. Many locations were recognized from rural Hungary: old castles, museums, chapels.

2. The Last Kingdom

This miniseries can be seen on BBC America as well as Netflix. It takes us to 9th century England and follows the life of Uhtred, a Saxon boy who’s raised by Danes after they capture him and take him with them. The show was almost entirely filmed in rural Hungary, on the land of Korda Studios, Etyek with its Medieval Village Set and surrounding mountains, forests and lakes. It is said to be the most popular rival of Game of Thrones as it’s the same fantasy genre and grandiose battles.

3. Alienist

The Alienist is set in the 1890s of Manhattan, New York. The main character is one of the first criminal medical examiners, who also happens to have Hungarian origins. The doctor, Laszló Kreizler is portrayed brilliantly by ⁣Daniel Brühl.⁣ The series was shot in Hungary in 2017: many famous monuments of Budapest can be seen in the show, but many scenes were shot in the famous Korda Studios, Etyek. ⁣We proved again that Budapest can be transformed into almost any major Western city!
