Abroad Films is now servicing productions in Croatia — adding 1,700 km of Adriatic coastline, world-class doubling capability, and a 25% cash rebate to our Hungary and Bulgaria operations.
Croatia adds something we haven't offered before: a premium Mediterranean filming destination with a proven track record on major international productions. From Dubrovnik and Split to the islands and national parks, Croatia brings a new range of locations, looks, and production possibilities to our partners.
A Coastline Built for Camera
Croatia's 1,700+ km Adriatic coastline and over 1,000 islands offer some of the most cinematic Mediterranean landscapes in Europe. Dubrovnik's UNESCO-listed medieval walls, Split's Roman architecture, Istria's Venetian towns, and the turquoise waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes have all featured in major international productions — including Game of Thrones, Succession, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

Doubling Capability
Beyond its own iconic settings, Croatia has strong doubling potential for higher-cost territories. Istrian hill towns and inland vineyards can convincingly stand in for Tuscany and the Italian countryside. Zagreb's Austro-Hungarian architecture doubles for Vienna, Prague, Budapest, or Munich. And Croatia's inland plateaus and the Dinaric mountain range can match parts of the US Midwest — often at a significantly lower overall production cost.

25% Cash Rebate
Croatia offers a 25% cash rebate on qualifying local spend, with an additional 5% uplift (total 30%) for productions filming in less-developed regions. The programme is administered on a first-come, first-served basis by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC), and covers feature films, documentaries, short films, TV drama, and animation.
EU-Based, Easy Logistics
As an EU member state, Croatia simplifies contracting and movement of crew and cast across Europe. Key production gateways — Zagreb, Split, and Dubrovnik — all have direct flights from major European hubs, and a modern highway network connects the coast with the capital. Crews are experienced, English proficiency is strong across key departments, and rates are competitive. For productions that need additional scale, Abroad Films can supplement Croatian resources with crew and equipment from our Hungary base.
